Today 218 years ago in 1799, General George Washington passed away at approximately 10pm. It is reported that Washington’s last words were, “‘Tis Well.” Three days after his death, Washington would be buried in the original family tomb, as shown below. In 1831, the new family tomb was completed. The remains of George and Martha were moved. Additional family members were moved at that time as well.
